General description

Medium-sized (100-140 g) brown, black and white bird with yellow beak, legs and eye patches.

What you need to know

To help protect our environment:

  • You must not breed, distribute, release or sell any myna within the Auckland region.

Habitats

Open habitats, urban areas, coastal areas, gardens, roadsides, pasture, crops, orchards.

Impact on environment

Outcompetes native birds for food, territory and nesting cavities, may attack other bird's nests. Can eat native fruit without dispersing seed and preys on vulnerable invertebrates. May transmit parasites and diseases to humans and other animals.
